“Breathe Underwater” is a collection of songs born out of pandemic grief and deep love for family across borders and timezones. After several family members passed away in 2021, Nikbo began to withdraw from music. A writing workshop called “Mapping the Wilds of Grief” led by Katrina Goldsaito helped Nikbo reconnect to creativity as a healing practice. The workshop inspired Nikbo to launch an oral history project, documenting stories and writing songs in collaboration with family abroad. At this special event, made possible by the Balay Kreative Growth Grant, Nikbo will debut new music inspired by loved ones and ancestors.COVID Safety: Out of care for the artists and medically vulnerable guests, masks are required.
