Weaving Art: A Community Offering
by Filipin_ Diaspora Weaving Collective

This workshop will open in circle as we (re)introduce ourselves to our creative spirit to allow flow state to center our being whenever we are creating. The first half of our time together is dedicated to familiarizing ourselves with different tropical fibers and map out the weaving communities who steward them while learning more about the oral stories that are foundational to their ancestral weaving traditions. In the second half, we will be weaving together with wooden frame looms and eco-friendly yarns to co-learn how to weave mata-mata (literally translated as eyes eyes), a diamond-like pattern that can be seen in various weaves across cultures. It is our hope to close in circle sharing personal reflection on our weaving journey and practice thus far.

WORKSHOP HOSTS

Diwa Malaya of Filipin_ Diaspora Weaving Collective

The Filipin_ Diaspora Weaving Collective is a group of weavers who feel called to connect with their Filipin_ roots grounded in the ways of their ancestors, waves of their migration stories, and webs of social realities that intersect with their sense of identity. They are currently working on projects that aims to provide access to resources to everyone who are interested in weaving, fiber arts and Philippine made textiles to deepen their connection with their culture.
