Philippine Dance in the Bay Area produced by Pangalay Circle is a community gathering that offers a workshop, intergenerational dialogues, and performances by local dance artists. Dance, a cultural touchstone, serves as a powerful medium for connecting with one's roots. For the Filipinx-American Diaspora in the Bay Area, Philippine dance has been more than a form of expression; it is a means of creating and belonging to a community, fostering a deeper connection to cultural heritage and identity. By inviting seasoned and emerging artists, we aim to explore the evolving narratives within Philippine dance, encouraging participants to see the transformative potential in their own voices, and artistic expressions.
This year we are honored to receive promotional support as part of Be(long)ing Here as one of the 2024 United States of Asian America Artists through the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center. We’re also thankful for production support through Balay Kreative and to be hosting this at Sentro Filipino.
This programming would not be possible without the generous sponsorships, donations, and support of our family, friends, and community.
ABOUT PANGALAY CIRCLE
Pangalay Circle centers around workshops and in-person dance circles. We hope to connect community members with seasoned practitioners who specialize in Pangalay dances, other related forms, and other Philippine dance styles. These local practitioners would serve as the bridge between students, Master Artists, and Indigenous culture bearers- channeling movement and lessons through workshops as well as facilitating dialogue through online platforms.
