Pabasa Workshop
Join Jacob Walse-Dominguez and Haraya Dance Project for a workshop on Indigenous Tagalog chanting and dance. Learn ancient "Pabasa" chanting melodies called "Dalit" from the revered elders of Batangas and Cardona, Rizal. Move in a healing Pre-colonial Tagalog dance through the rich "Subli" dance of Batangas, including the unique "Talumpok Subli," of Talumpok Silangan, guided by traditional drum beats passed down by Tagalog culture bearers. Jacob Walse-Dominguez
A queer imigrant and diasporic traditional Southeast Asian performing artist bridging transnational histories through cultural work. Their traditional learning spans both Philippine and Indonesian traditional movement and musical arts, learning directly from firsthand culture bearers of the region. Through cultural immersion with teachers in Southeast Asia and community work among the diasporic Filipinx community in the US, Jacob hopes to weave past and present towards a pre-Philippine and post-colonial Asian identity. Focusing on colonial resistance and empowerment through cultural work, they hope to share knowledge across Asia and the Asian diaspora.
Haraya Dance Project
Founded by Sydney Loyola, Jae Tioseco, and Theo Capulong, aims to create spaces for trans, non-binary & queer Filipinx through dance rooted in our culture and honor the traditions of the people.
