WELCOME TO OUR STUDIOS

Balay Open Studios at Halo Halo Holidays
Sat, 12/10/22 from 11a-4p
863 Mission St @ 5th St
In SOMA Pilipinas

We’re opening our doors to the community to give a sneak peek of our secret workshop to view our amazing art, meet our artists, shop, get down with DJ’s, and be in community this holiday season.

Balay Kreative is a pop-up artist studio and streaming hub that was stealthily built during the dark days of the pandemic. We have a mission to accelerate the growth of Filipinx artistic expression in SOMA Pilipinas.

Shop and browse the Republika Window Shop Collection, a concept inspired by a Portland project where vacate storefronts will be activated with a curated display of retail items from the Filipinx maker world while simultaneously telling stores of Filipino culture.

Filipino Bike Racks by Andre Sibayan

The pattern embossed on the bike racks reflects the Filipino-inspired motifs found in many of the designs I've produced for projects in Soma Pilipinas. The sunray pattern and indigenous textile pattern provide a subtle marker for these otherwise common structures found throughout the SF. My intent was to make the symbols easily recognizable, even to non-filipinos and those from outside the city, and provide a sense of place, culture, & pride for those exploring the cultural district.
