Weaving Together Dance & Storytelling with SAMMAY
HINGA is a site-specific outdoor performance ritual experience honoring the life force of the Pilipinx community in San Francisco / Yelamu – specifically highlighting the community’s hxstory and story of belonging in the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District.
Interdisciplinary artist and choreographer SAMMAY will use embodied storytelling to weave events of the past, voices of the present, and visions of the future to realize our collective journey of transmuting struggle, pain, and loss into reclaiming ancestral inheritance – by honoring the land and those before us.
An ode to the cultivation of ‘home’ away from our ancestral home of the Philippines, this piece will draw upon our community’s stories of resistance and resilience with musical influence from both the Philippines and our contemporary local Fil-Am music scene.
Balay Kreative is proud to support SAMMAY and her artistic vision. As an artist who has grown her artistic practice with the SOMA, we see the need for her work in the community. Congratulations, Sammay!
