Sami See: Creating Sanctuary Through Technology & Art

2.jpg

Congratulations to March Arist Grantee Sami See, a muralist whose work has been featured throughout SOMA Pilipinas and the Bay Area!

Samantha Schilf, who paints under the name “Sami See”, grew up drawing and painting in the San Francisco, Bay Area, and began creating murals and aerosol art in 2011. As a second generation, bi-racial, Filipinx-American, her work explores elements of her cultural roots and unique experience of reconnecting and re-membering intergenerational wisdom.

The 9th Dambana is a new series of multimedia portraits by artist Sami See which will be unveiled at Bindlestiff Studio. “The 9th Dambana” features vibrant mixed-media portraits, centering Filipino-American women in the SF Bay Area community. This interactive exhibit uses an augmented reality app allowing viewers to tune into diasporic narratives voiced by the loved ones of those portraited. Artworks weave the struggle, resilience and power of women into sacred offerings that reflect the beauty of bodies in relationship.
