Ramon Abad Presents "Tito Ramon's Pop-Up Puppet Theater"
Ramon Abad is a San Francisco-based illustrator, designer & animator; dedicated to the ideal that good, well-made visuals are based on good, well-written narratives.
Ramon Abad is building a new puppet theater show, called "Tito Ramon's Pop-Up Puppet Theater" for audiences of SOMA Pilipinas children, their families and beyond at various Filipino American festivals & events like UNDISCOVERED.
The grant would help fund the design and build of a light-weight portable puppet theater, a cast of puppet characters that would be hand-carved out of wood and accompanying props & hand-painted backdrops. The project would also involve collaborating with a talented wood carver artist based in Manila to fabricate the puppets and with Filipino American visual artists in the Bay Area in the painting of backdrops and sets.
Ramon has been part of the fabric of both our Filipinx artist community and the Bay Area theater community for quite a while, and we are very honored to support Ramon’s work and his vision for creating more culturally responsive theater for youth! Congratulations, Ramon!
